Control Systems Engineer (m/f)
About the role
Our team focuses on developing control systems for accelerators intended for research and industrial applications. We are looking for an individual interested in creating solutions that integrate software and hardware components, motivated by seeing the bigger picture.
You will help develop various systems for monitoring and controlling accelerators. These systems include detectors for capturing beam images, superconducting magnets used to change the shape and direction of the beam, nanosecond-resolution timers, cryogenic systems responsible for cooling superconducting materials, vacuum systems, and other similarly complex systems.

Key tasks and responsibilities
- Developing device drivers for communication with various accelerator components.
- Adding features and components to the particle accelerator control system.
- Writing technical documentation.
- Preparing test cases and executing commissioning procedures.
- Collaborating with other developers via code reviews and occasional pair programming.
- Collect customer’s input and translate it into clear technical requirements.
- Defining the architecture and design of control systems.
Required qualifications and skills
- Experience in software development in C and C++.
- Good knowledge of the Linux operating system (filesystem navigation, BASH, SSH).
- Understanding of computer networks (protocols, topology design, etc.),
- Working knowledge of Git.
- Experience with systems engineering and software architecture.
- Action-oriented personality and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with client communication.
- Developed communication skills.
- An open mind for discussion and team collaboration.
Education
- Sc. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or other related technical disciplines.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
Bonus points if you have
- Interest in or experience within the scientific domain (particle accelerators, fusion energy, space,…).
- Experience with Python.
- Knowledge of industrial protocols, such as Modbus.
- Desire to eventually work as a project manager in a part-time capacity.
