Cosylab enters into collaboration with Mayo Clinic to advance radiation therapy!
Cosylab, the world’s leading provider of control systems and software solutions for the planet’s most complex and precise machines, announced today it has entered into a collaboration with Mayo Clinic to advance cancer care in the United States and beyond. This agreement marks a significant milestone with the opening of the first carbon ion treatment facility in the United States, providing new treatment options for cancer patients.
The collaboration is focused on advancing cutting-edge technology and pioneering new frontiers in curing cancer by combining Cosylab’s expertise in medical technology solutions with Mayo Clinic’s clinical and research capabilities. Specifically, the collaboration will leverage Mayo Clinic’s know-how and algorithms, in conjunction with Cosylab’s software, to develop and translate research and technology into clinical practice.
Carbon ion therapy, also known as carbon ion radiotherapy, is a highly advanced form of radiation therapy that offers precise targeting of tumors while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. It is a proven and effective option even for challenging cases like radioresistant and recurring tumors. The new carbon ion center will allow millions of Americans to access this advanced treatment modality, which would otherwise require medical treatment abroad.
Mark Pleško, PhD, CEO of Cosylab, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to collaborate with such an institution as Mayo Clinic, one of the world’s most renowned clinics in radiation therapy and medicine in general. Together, we aim to redefine cancer care by harnessing the power of technology, innovation, and clinical expertise.”
Laura Vallow, MD, Radiation Oncology Department Chair at Mayo Clinic in Florida, emphasized the impact of cancer care worldwide. “With our commitment to excellence and innovation, we are confident in our ability through this collaborative effort to translate advanced technology to Mayo Clinic’s carbon ion treatment facility and later to clinics worldwide, ultimately advancing cancer care on a global scale.”
The collaboration will be presented in more detail at the PTCOG 62 Conference, which will take place in Singapore from June 10 to June 15, 2024. For more information, please email marketing@cosylab.com or stop by Cosylab’s booth.
