Competence Center for Workforce Development in the field of Information and Communication Technologies

The project Competence Center for Workforce Development in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (KOC IKT) is implemented within the framework of the Public Call for the Co-Financing of the Establishment and Operation of Competence Centers for Workforce Development for the period 2019 to 2022, published by the Public Fund of the Republic of Slovenia for Development and Scholarships. It is carried out as part of the operation Competence Centers for Workforce Development 2019–2022 in accordance with the Operational Program for the Implementation of the European Cohesion Policy for the period 2014–2020. More information can be found at the website www.eu-skladi.si. The co-financing amount for the operation is €549,976.75.

The Competence Center for Workforce Development in the field of Information and Communication Technologies will provide advanced training for personnel to enable partners to penetrate new markets in the field of ICT technology usage. This addresses societal challenges and develops smart solutions in the areas of smart cities and communities, energy, mobility, healthcare, circular economy, space technologies, scientific infrastructures, etc. The ICT market is a rapidly growing and technologically demanding market. The current estimate of the global value of the ICT market is approximately $5.342 trillion. In the coming decades, significant investments in the digitized Industry 4.0, the construction of new smart cities, and the smart society 5.0 are expected worldwide. New “smart services” for users are being introduced daily worldwide, accompanied by the emergence of new professions. It is crucial for Slovenian companies to actively participate. The rapid growth of the ICT technology market requires quick adaptation of companies, products, and solutions to meet customer needs; monitoring and understanding the latest standards, trends, and technologies. To ensure global success and competitiveness of companies, the development of state-of-the-art solutions is of utmost importance. Continuous investment in personnel is therefore essential. This is also the basis for the participation of ICT companies in the development of solutions in other areas. In Koc-PMiS (KOC 2.0), we have identified competence deficiencies in ICT, which we directly address with KOC-IKT.

The main purpose of the KOC IKT project is to elevate competencies, productivity, and innovation of employees in partner companies, strengthen competitiveness, and promote collaboration among partner companies through informal forms of training.

Project Objectives

The key objective of the project is to provide advanced training for personnel to enable partners to penetrate new markets in the field of ICT technologies. The training will cover all 6 areas of the Horizontal Priority Area of ICT: digital transformation, internet of things, internet services, cybersecurity, high-performance computing and big data, and artificial intelligence. Throughout the entire project, the importance of lifelong training for personnel will be emphasized, which is crucial in the rapidly growing ICT technology market. We will also strive for broader social impact. Through the project, we aim to increase the recognition of future competencies in the field of ICT and, by collaborating with universities, guide curricula. The project will connect partner companies with the goal of long-term collaboration on research and development and production projects.

The main objectives of the KOC IKT project are:

  1. Improve and upgrade key competencies of employees in ICT companies, thereby increasing their flexibility, employability, efficiency, and preparedness for future challenges.
  2. Train human resources departments to attract, develop, and retain key personnel and digital talents.
  3. Strengthen awareness and motivate employees and employers about the necessity of a lifelong approach to training.
  4. Strengthen the connection, networking of companies, and the transfer of best practices in workforce development in partner companies KOC IKT and beyond.
  5. Strengthen the competitiveness and innovation of partner companies by acquiring new competencies and knowledge and collaborating in partnerships.
  6. Promote the areas of application defined in S4 and the Horizontal Priority Area of ICT.
